Techie Stuff

As if, I mean, I have only been ferreting around inside these damn machines since the early 80's.
So what is Techie stuff... I suppose things like explaining that I have a Sinclair ZX81, with a Huge 16K RAM Pack, and an Acorn atom Keyboard bodged to replace the Membrane thing that died.
Stuff like - I use  Pegasus  e-mail and the Mercury MTA at work I consider that although I don't know a lot about either, I have got them to work and can offer advice regarding setup and implementation.
At Work, we have a variety of servers, including a Sparcstation 20 (well, thats what it was....)
Here at home, we have one PC, hand crafted by myself to the limit of my budget at the time - AMD K6-III 450, 196Mb RAM, Loads of HDD, Various Firewall/AV apps, Dialup winmodem (yeuck) ATI RAGE II FURY PRO VIVO AGP thing.
Still on a winmodem 'cos BT (what a pants website for a corp...) charge an arm and a leg for ISDN (£30 per month for 64k plus call charges) and Weymouth still thinks cable is something you find on ships.

Help  pchelp  - the man who is being sued by a corp for writing a bad review and then having the temerity to publish, on the web, his review of a LAME, WORTHLESS, P-O-S malware which is not worth describing in any detail at all.
Zone Labs  have a good personal firewall (Zone alarm).
Tiny Personal Firewall is also good - better if you like getting intimately involved with the workings of the firewall.
Proxomitron is a good proxy to bung between you and the web on widoze boxes - it hammers JS, POPUPS and stuff like that.
Webwasher Is like a consumer version of Prox. Much simplified interface (but you still need to know what you are doing) and more resource hungry.
grc.com A good starting place for all things security/privacy related on the web. The discussions are particularly fine, if you ignore the occasional flame wars and testosterone laden posts there. Click on over, the water is fine once you are in...
There may be more links  here  sometime...
